My name is Julian Lehrer. I’m currently a graduate student in Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I work at the UCSC Genomics Institute, where I’m using deep learning to build a single-cell classifier for cortical cells from mRNA expression. Previously, I worked as an undergraduate building statdepth, the first Python library for functional depth calculations.

I’m fascinated by machine learning, and in particular, deep learning and it’s applications to understanding the wonderfully complex natural world around us. I’m part of the Braingeneers, One Brain groups at the UCSC Genomics Institute, where we build 3D models of the human brain using human tissue and stem cells.

I’ve also worked as a data science intern at Blackthorn Therapeutics and Startup Genome.

As my time as UCSC begins to come to an end, I’m searching for a full time position somewhere in the realm of data science and machine learning, so please check out my resume and GitHub.
